Joseph William Segers' Obituary
Joseph William Segers, Jr., age 80, passed away on Wednesday, March 1, 2017, in Springdale. He was born on September 22, 1936, in Texarkana, Arkansas, to Joseph William, Sr. and Winifred Elizabeth Brannan Segers. He is preceded in death by his sister, Susan Griffith. Joe was graduated from Byrd High School in Shreveport, Louisiana, in 1954. He was graduated from Centenary College in 1958 and then went on to receive a law degree from the University of Arkansas in 1970. He practiced law in Fayetteville as well as Fort Worth, Texas. He was a Razorbacks fan and worked with Fayetteville youth as a coach and umpire of teenage baseball leagues. He also worked as a referee for high school football games. He served as a major in the U.S. Army and fought in combat in Vietnam earning numerous medals and awards including a purple heart. Joe is survived by his wife, Kathleen Segers; his former wife and mother to their children, Gail T. Segers; his two daughters, The Reverend Rebecca Segers of Stewartsville, New Jersey, and Betsy Finocchi of Fayetteville; one son, Joseph William Segers, III and his wife Debbie of Nashville, Tennessee; his five grandchildren, Grace Segers, Matthew Hinton, Ashley Oxner, Caroline Segers, and Joseph William Segers, IV; and four great-grandchildren. There will be private services held by the family at a later date.
