Judy Gwyn Stokenberry's Obituary
Judy Gwyn Stokenberry, age 83, of Fayetteville, Arkansas passed away unexpectedly at home on December 13, 2023, in Fayetteville. She was born on April 14, 1940, in Prescott, Arkansas, and was the only child to Lewis William and Cleo Martha Nelson Sandusky. Judy spent her youth in Prescott, attended high school in Kansas City and eventually moved with her parents to Texas where she graduated from Denison High School in 1958.
Judy graduated from the University of Arkansas in 1962 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. She was a member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority and served as president of her chapter. While attending the U of A, she met and married Maurice Glenn Stokenberry in 1962. Judy retired from the State of Oklahoma where she worked as a social worker. In addition, she was active in her husband’s business, Stokenberry Motors. Judy was a devout member of the Presbyterian Church in Pawhuska and Fayetteville.
In fall of 2006, Judy moved to Fayetteville to be closer to her grandchildren and fondly became known as JuJu. Her time in Fayetteville was filled with attending sporting events, crafting with her grandchildren, cooking Sunday night meals and lending a hand whenever needed. She enjoyed nights at the Walton Arts Center with friends, P.E.O. and the many opportunities her church afforded her.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Maurice, and her parents, Lewis and Cleo.
Judy is survived by her sons, Scott and wife Blakely of Fayetteville, and Corby and wife Meg of Charleston, South Carolina. She was blessed with 4 grandchildren, Sarah Kate, Caroline, Will and Ceny Stokenberry.
A reception will be held at 12:15 prior to funeral services, Tuesday, December 19 at 1:00 pm, at First United Presbyterian Church in Fayetteville. Graveside service will be immediately following at Stokenberry Cemetery in Elkins. Memorials may be made to Washington County Humane Society.
