Julia Hicks' Obituary
Julia Hicks will be remembered as a caring teacher, devoted sister, and giving friend. Julia grew up in Arkansas, the daughter of Walter Edwin Hicks and Evelyn Blossom Russell Hicks and sister to Virginia Rose Hicks. In 1965, Julia graduated with a mathematics degree from the University of Arkansas and began a career in teaching. She returned to campus to be a Teaching Assistant in the Mathematical Sciences Department where she graduated with a MA in 1975 and a MS in 1977. After a career as a Process Engineer with Sunco Refinery in Tulsa, she retired only to return to the University of Arkansas as an instructor and then later as the Assistant Director of the Math Resource and Tutoring Center. She was a devoted teacher who was adored by her students: treasured by her peers; and cherished by the TA’s she supervised. Julia was also known to have a big heart dogs, a wide collection of movies, and an assortment of the latest electronic gadgets.
