Karen S Spears' Obituary
On March 9th, 2023, Karen S. Spears passed away peacefully with her loving children by her side. She was born Karen S. Long of Panama, Oklahoma, on July 1st, 1946. At age 13, Karen's family relocated to northwest Arkansas. As an adult Karen spent her entire working career as a cosmetologist. She was a gifted instructor at Ruth's Beauty College for many years. Karen was an expert in hair color, and was known for her great haircuts. She worked at several salons in Fayetteville acquiring a large loyal clientele. Our mother, Karen, was one of the strongest women to ever walk this earth. Her courage and bravery were unparalleled. She was an amazing mother, and a loving grandmother, who fiercely protected her loved ones. Her passing has left a void in our lives that we may never fill, but we will always cherish the time we had together.
Karen was preceded in death by her mother Ruth Tune, stepfather Carl Tune, and father Harrell L. Long. Karen is survived by her two children and eight grandchildren. Her daughter, Autumn Spears of Blue Lake, California, and her sons, Kai and Onyx, and Devin Spears-Thomas and his children Trystan, Guadalupe, Jasper, Gareth, Atticus, and Tamlin.
Autumn and Devin are especially thankful for Alma, with Washington Regional Hospice, who made it possible for us to care for Mom in the comfort of her own home. We also would like to express our deep gratitude to everyone at the Willard Walker Hospice home for the love and compassion they showed our family in those last days.
A memorial service to honor Karen is expected in late spring in Fayetteville, Arkansas and will be announced soon.
