Kevin Johnson's Obituary
Coach Jerry “Kevin” Johnson, 46 of Springdale, AR passed away Tuesday, June 28, 2011 at Circle of Life Hospice after a courageous two year battle with cancer. He was born July 3, 1964 in Searcy, AR to Jerry Dale Johnson and Patricia Ann (Evans) Johnson.
Kevin was a 1982 graduate of Searcy High School. He attended Arkansas Tech University on a football scholarship, and attended Harding University where he received his Masters. He retired from the Springdale School District where he was an educator and head football coach for the Springdale Bulldogs. He also taught and coached at Lincoln High School and Shiloh Christian School. He was a member of Cross Church in Springdale, Arkansas Activities Association, NER, AEA, Football Coaches Association, and was active in Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
He is survived by his two sons; Evan and Isaac Johnson of Springdale, AR, parents; Jerry and Patricia Johnson of Searcy, one sister; Katrina Mimms and husband Rod of Jacksonville, AR, two nephews; Caleb and Caden Mimms, and his loving fiancé Estella Nelson.
Kevin was an All-American football player, and was inducted in the Sports Hall of Honor at Arkansas Tech University. Kevin impacted countless students, athletes, colleagues, and friends with his love for Christ and gentle spirit.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 30, 2011 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Cross Church in Springdale. Funeral services will be held 10:00 AM, Friday, July 1, 2011 at Cross Church in Springdale with Dr. Ronnie Floyd, Pastor John Marquette, and Coach Gus Malzahn officiating. A second service will be held 1:00 PM, Saturday at First Assembly of God Church in Searcy, AR with burial to follow at White County Memorial Gardens in Searcy, Arkansas.
Pallbearers will be Gus Malzahn, Dennis DeBusk, Jamie Crowley, Richie Collier, Tommy White, Greg Gershner, Jeff Kinkel, and Rod Mimms.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jason Johnson, John Johnson, Jeff Johnson, Jeremy Johnson, James Evans, Terry Dawkins, Terry Johnson, and David Lorton.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution may be made to the Kevin Johnson Memorial Fund at any First Security Bank location or sent to First Security Bank, 2863 West Sunset Avenue, Springdale, AR, 72762.
