Kevin Pittman's Obituary
Kevin Pittman, whose first name is actually Timothy, lived 53 years on the earth. Now in heaven, he is the most alive he has ever been. The faith he held to unwaveringly has been fulfilled. He was a pastor’s kid, along with his sister Allison. They kept their parents Albert and Louise on their toes growing up! Kevin was a devoted servant of Christ and a faithful husband to me and our kids. We finally found our stride in marriage and discovered the beauty of living “happily ever after” these last few years.
We met at Christ For the Nations Bible Institute in Dallas in 1991. Kevin had his eye on me since our 1st meeting at orientation. He drove me home afterwards. I lived one whole block away. Our last semester was spent as a married couple and we were allowed to have a tv, a luxury not afforded to single students. Beginning our life together at CFNI and starting each morning in worship set the tone for our life together. Keeping God first in our individual lives made our marriage relationship solid because it was built on the ROCK. In the 90s we took a marriage class called MARRIED FOR LIFE. This summer Kevin signed us up for another session with them and we were involved in leading the group together when he got sick. Kevin connected us to some awesome, God loving people who have supported us tremendously in that group. Blending 2 individual lives into ONE is not easy and we made a lot of mistakes along the way. The Pittman’s are very good forgivers because we have had a lot of practice doing so. Ephesians 4:32 is a favorite verse that we sang to each other during our first group.
“Be kind to one another, tenderhearted forgiving each other, just as God in Christ has forgiven you.”
Kevin was the most generous person I knew. He was always taking me places and buying me things. (Yes, he was wooing me, I know) He gave in every offering that was taken up. He always told me, “You can’t out give God.” He knew God was his source. Our first job together was in youth ministry at Eaglemount Church for several years before moving to Oklahoma City to attend Church of the Harvest and be involved in their youth ministry and Youth America. Still today we have deep relationships with many of our youth from LIVING SACRIFICES in Texas (Roman12:1-2). They have been such an amazing support to me these last several weeks. One of the greatest things to happen in Kevin’s life was becoming a father. Darrin Joshua, Brandon Michael, and Brittany Marie gave him a JOY like no other. Spending quality time together as a family was important to us.
Darrin remembers his dad being intentional to pray whenever we left on a road trip. Kevin took his responsibility seriously and trained them according to God’s word, to the best of his ability. He relied on God’s wisdom and spent countless hours interceding for them. Kevin was most content when he made time to spend with God, listening to Holy Spirit in the secret place of the Most High.
Kevin’s strong work ethic made it difficult for him to relax at times. Having some land just south of Fayetteville for the last year made it easier for him to unwind. He loved being in the woods. The peace and quiet he found there was exactly what he needed after a long work day. He took pride in catching fish from the stream and stocking the pond on the land. In 2002 we moved to Arkansas as franchise owners for Aerus Electrolux. Kevin loved the flexibility of owning a business so he could attend all of the kid’s activities. Having the business was a blessing, yet so very stressful as well. Kevin surrounded himself with people who were gifted in areas he wasn’t and God has always been faithful to get us through some very difficult times with the help of very special people. Kevin took me all around the world by winning trips from accomplishing sales goals. Our favorite was the Mediterranean cruise and so many beach vacations. He loved it when we went to a Spanish speaking country because he knew how much I enjoyed being able to communicate with everyone. I learned Spanish in Paraguay in 1988 as an exchange student. I’m sad Kevin never got to go there with me. My family there has been a wonderful source of strength to me. We were planning to go there for our 30th anniversary… but you know what happened. The whole world shut down for a time. And last but not least, my husband was blessed with an extra dose of humor. Even through the hard times of our life together he could and would make me laugh. We often debate who is the funniest Pittman. Brittany says it’s her… and that’s probably true. The Bible says that laughter is a medicine (Pro. 17:22) and I know God has used HIS JOY through it to bring healing to us many times. And to our new church family at VISION. Thank you for walking beside us and extending the arms of our Heavenly Father to Kevin and I. Your care has meant the world to me and your love of the Lord is so evident.
And to all reading this, may HIS LOVE reach your heart as you go on with your day and your life.
As we celebrate this Christmas season my hope and Kevin’s is that you receive GOD’S GIFT OF LOVE who came for you ! JESUS is the reason for the season! And HE IS THE REASON for every single day! "I AM the WAY, the TRUTH and the LIFE," Jesus says in John 14:6.
In place of flowers which fade, I plan on buying some Bibles in Kevin's honor because God’s word lasts forever. Isaiah 40:8
With much love, April Pittman
