Larry (or NUBS as I call him) and I served together aboard the USS Rathburne DE-1057. We were both assigned to that Navy Destroyer, and were part of the first crew that commissioned the new ship in May 1970 in Bremerton Washington. We immediately became good friends the moment we met, and little did we know what was in store for us between the good times and bad, but we did it. Once we were both honorably discharged we stayed in touch with each other for over 50 years and a few years ago got together at a Rathburne reunion with our wives in Pensacola Florida. One thing I remember most about Nubs, is that he always knew how to cheer somebody up by telling one of his infamous jokes, and bringing a smile to your face.
It is with great sadness that I say good bye to you for now Nubs, It was an honor to serve with you and to call you a life long friend. May you always have "Fair Winds And Following Seas" rest in peace my brother!
