Lehman Ray Turner's Obituary
Lehman Ray Turner, age 85 of Fayetteville, Arkansas completed his tour of duty on earth on 12 February 2023 at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Fayetteville Arkansas. Lehman was born on September 11, 1937 in Camp Arkansas to James Calvin Turner and Neama Maguffee Turner. Lehman graduated from Salem High School in 1955. To escape farming the rocky hills of North Arkansas, he enlisted in the U.S. Army serving 3 years in the frigid mountains of Korea. Upon discharge in 1959 Lehman married and moved to Northwest Arkansas for education, work, and to raise a family. He completed Degrees in Vocational Agriculture and Horticulture. Lehman operated a tree and plant nursery business and also Turner’s Pest Control company where the slogan was “Stop Screamin and Call Lehman!” After teaching Vocational Agriculture for a few years, Lehman and his son managed and maintained residential rental property.
Lehman was a member of the Masonic Lodge No.1, American Legion Post 27, and 25-year usher for all University of Arkansas athletic events. He met many lifelong friends and strengthened the community by his service. Lehman loved being outdoors especially fishing and hunting with family and friends. He was a member of the Cornerstone Church of Christ where everyone enjoyed his warm smile and affable personality.
Preceding his death were his parents, a niece Carrie Turner, and two great grandsons Wilson and Owen Turner. Lehman is survived by a sister, Sharon Kay Blevins and brother Larry Dean (Shirley) Turner both of Salem Arkansas and brother Lonnie Gene (Patsy) Turner of West Plains Missouri; four children Tesa Turner (Chip) Finn of Knoxville Tennessee, Lance Regan (Melissa) Turner and Amy Turner (Matt) Buckner both of Fayetteville, and Brian Turner of Napa California. Additionally, he is survived by six grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
The family is grateful to his wonderful neighbors and deeply appreciate the medical staff at Washington Regional Medical Center and Veterans Healthcare of the Ozarks for their compassionate care in his last days.
Funeral service will be 20 February at 11:00 a.m. at the Cornerstone Church of Christ with Keith Caselman officiating. Following the funeral, please join the family for a Celebration of Life at Fayetteville’s American Legion Post 27. He will be memorialized privately in the Fayetteville National Cemetery under the direction of Moore's Chapel Funeral Home.
