Lela Laney Shipman's Obituary
Lela Nickell Laney Shipman, 91 of Fayetteville went to be with the Lord Tuesday, December 25, 2012 in Springdale. She was born September 16, 1921 in Hazel Valley, Arkansas the daughter of Fred Nickell and Angie Eldridge Nickel
During World War II, she repaired the disabled Catalina airplanes coming back from combat at Ryan Aeronautical in San Diego, CA. After returning, she was a food service manager for the University of Arkansas for many years among other positions. She is preceded in death by her first husband, Charles Kenneth Laney, her parents, two brothers, Archie and Donald Nickell and sisters, Nadine Turrentine and Bobbye Lee Tisdale Survivors include her husband, Chester Shipman of the home; sons, Gary (Joy) Laney of Searcy and Jeff ( Stephanie) Laney of Fayetteville; 2 stepsons, Buddy Shipman, (Carman) of Mansfield, TX and Stan Shipman (Sylvia) of Springtown, TX; stepdaughter Mary Alice Macias of Kansas City, MO sister, Pat (Deryle) Oxford of Springdale; 3 grandsons, Douglas (Ina) Laney, Andrew (Katie) Laney, Marcus Laney, and triplets, Alexis, Brittney and Caitlin Laney, She is also survived by three great-grandchildren, many nieces , nephews and friends. She will be sorely missed by all those who knew and adorned her and she will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, sister and grandmother. The family will receive friends and family from 5 to 7PM on Thursday at Moore’s Chapel. Funeral service will be 1:00PM, Friday, December 28, 2012, at Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. Phil Misenheimer officiating. Burial to follow in Nickell Cemetery in Hazel Valley under the direction of Moore’s Chapel.
