Leona Verda DeVore's Obituary
Leona Verda DeVore, age 101, of Prairie Grove, Arkansas went peacefully to be with the Lord on June 23, 2026. She was born to Geter L. Williamson and Jewel A. Thompson on May 13, 1925, in McCurtain, Oklahoma. She was the second of eleven children, having 6 sisters and 4 brothers.
Leona and her beloved husband, John L. DeVore, raised three children together and built a life centered on faith, family, and hard work. She had a deep love for farming, gardening, and took great pride in her talents as a gifted seamstress. Her caring spirit, gentle wisdom, and unwavering love for her family will be remembered by all who knew her.
A devoted woman of faith, Leona faithfully served her church and community for more than twenty years as a Sunday school teacher and church treasurer. She lovingly organized countless Sunday dinners and provided memorable varieties of “homemade” ice cream. She always enjoyed sharing the love of the Lord; bringing joy and comfort to everyone around her. Her faith and kindness remained steadfast throughout her life.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John L. DeVore; her daughter, Barbara Abbott, and Barbara's son, Paul; her son, David Dodd, and his son, John Dodd; and her son, Sam Dodd, and his daughter, Darlene Ann.
Leona is survived by one sister, Norma Steele; and one brother, Frank Williamson.
Leona leaves behind a remarkable legacy through her family, including nine grandchildren, twenty-six great-grandchildren, thirty-four great-great-grandchildren, and one great-great-great-grand child,
Though she has departed this earthly life; her love, faith, and the countless memories she created will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.
A visitation will be held at 10:00 AM Friday, June 26, 2026, at Moore’s Chapel with the service to follow at 11:00 AM. Leona’s Interment is at Parks Cemetery in Winslow, Arkansas under the direction of Moore’s Chapel.
