Leslie James Elliott's Obituary
Leslie James Elliott, of Springdale, AR, formally of Bakersfield, CA went to his Heavenly home on February 16, 2012, at the age of 90 years. He was born in Lexington, OK, on March 28, 1921 to William M. Elliott and Maggie E. (Jennings) Elliott. He was the youngest of 9 children. He married Dorothy J. Cox on February 14, 1970.
He is predeceased by his parents, 4 brothers, and 4 sisters, daughters Cecilia Perry and Carolyn J. Baldridge-Powell and Great-Grandson Dustin Baldridge.
Leslie is survived by his wife of 42 years, Dorothy, of Springdale, as well as 3 children, daughter, Martha Louise Coleman and husband Donnie of Springdale, AR., daughter Margie Craighead and son, Darrell Elliott of CA. He and Dorothy had 10 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren, plus 5 great-great grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews and cousins.
Les left Oklahoma with his family during the Dust Bowl. They moved to California to work in the orchards and fields. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1942. Les started driving trucks after he left the Navy. He loved the big rigs and going down the roads in CA. He retired at the age of 72. When he wasn’t working, you could find him in his yard tilling the soil and tending to his flowers and garden. He loved watching things grow. It was often said, he could make a dead tree bear fruit. He enjoyed putting puzzles together, collecting toy trucks and tinkering with small engines. Most of all, he loved his family.
Funeral services will be 10:00 am, Tuesday, February 21, 2012 at Nelson-Berna Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow at Fayetteville National Cemetery.
Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Monday, February 20, from 5pm to 7pm.
