Lois Irene Kerr's Obituary
Lois “Irene” Kerr, born November 13, 1931, in a log cabin in the hills west of West Fork to John "Otto" and Lydia (nee Putnam) Weber, of West Fork. Her family moved to Fayetteville, where Irene blossomed into a beautiful young woman. More than just a pretty face, Irene finished among the top honor students of her 1949 graduating class at Fayetteville High School.
In June 1950 Irene married Karl (Corky) Kerr, and the young couple set up housekeeping in California. To this marriage were born a son Kent, and a daughter, Lisa. Karl completed his career by serving our Country honorably in the military. Irene endeavored to maintain stability and integrity for her family though often uprooted by reassignments. One such reassignment in late 1964 found Irene crossing the stormy North Atlantic Ocean on the USS Upshur and setting up housekeeping in West Germany. Her first airplane ride was on her return trip to the USA in 1968.
Irene and Karl wound up wading the shores of the Pacific, the Atlantic, the Great Lakes, Lake Zurich, the Rhine River, climbing to dizzying overlooks in the Alps … Irene got around!
After retirement, Irene enjoyed gardening, cooking, reading and family get-togethers. She provided end-of-life care for both her husband and her mother in her Springdale home where she continued to live with her dog and cat companions until the summer of 2023 when all the miles and caring caught up with her.
Irene died December 17, 2023, at Springdale. She is survived by sister Ruth Johnson of Fayetteville, son Kent Kerr and his wife Joyce of Gravette, daughter Lisa Mills of Fayetteville, great granddaughters Karlee Springer and Anna Springer of Conway, nephews, nieces, and cousins.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Circle of Life Hospice.
