Lon Jones' Obituary
Lon Jones III was born on October 26, 1941, in Little Rock, Arkansas, to Albert and Lucile Jones. He passed away peacefully on July 19, 2026 at the age of 84, with the love and support of his family always nearby.
Lon was an accomplished motorcyclist and sailor whose curiosity and creativity seemed to have no limits. He built a two-story cabin in the woods with his own hands, and throughout his life pursued an astonishing variety of interests and crafts. His projects were prolific and included blacksmithing, leatherwork, jewelry design, woodturning, photography, watercolor painting, sketching, and playing the upright bass. If something could be built, repaired, designed, or learned, chances are Lon had tried it.
During his career with RCA, Lon traveled extensively throughout the world. He and his wife, Frances, continued that spirit of adventure together, enjoying both domestic and international travel throughout their years together.
Lon is survived by his wife of 25 years, Frances; his children, Elisa Belknap (Clayton), Nicholas Jones, and Michael Cawthon (Canem); and his cherished grandchildren, Elena and Brynn Belknap, and Levi and Dilan Cawthon.
The family extends its heartfelt gratitude to the Washington Regional hospice team—especially Alma and Chany—and to the caregivers at Mill Creek, who treated Lon with compassion, dignity, and kindness during his final days.
A private family service will be held.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to a charity or hospice of your choice. Or to honor Lon more personally, go build something. Learn something. Create something with your own hands. Follow a curiosity simply because you love it, or because you think you just might.
