Loree "Rita" Litaker's Obituary
Betty Loree “Rita” Litaker passed away on September 15, 2022 at 6:15 AM at Edgewood Health nursing home in Fayetteville, AR after complications arising from a recent onset of pneumonia. Loree was born on August 29, 1934 to Irene Weaver (Sloop) and Charles Edward Weaver. She had two sisters, Johnsie Baxter (deceased) and Sara Ann Brown, and a brother, Charles “Bub” Weaver. She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Winston Litaker, in 2021. She is survived by two sons, Casey Litaker and Steve Litaker, 8 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren.
Loree was a native of Landis, NC but lived most of her life in Kannapolis, NC. She was a very kind and caring person. When her family was young, she worked at Cannon Mills in the No. 7 Spinning Room and also helped teach Sunday school at St. David’s Lutheran Church. As her sons grew a little older and began playing sports, she would drop off / pick them up from practices and attend / cheer at all of their sporting events (baseball, wrestling, football). During that time, you would often see her driving around town with her dog, Snoopy, riding shotgun on the front seatback in the car.
Loree also very much liked outdoor activities, including camping and boating at High Rock Lake and visiting the mountains and beaches. After her husband retired, Loree and Bill loved to travel, traversing the US often several times a year to visit their sons, who had by that time started their own careers… Dallas/Fort Worth, Richmond, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Atlanta, Washington DC, Boston, Fayetteville AR, and thoroughly enjoyed local sightseeing on nearly every trip.
During the last decade, Loree faced increasing health challenges including the onset of dementia. Throughout these difficulties, her kindness and warmth never waned. Loree, your humility and love will be missed greatly. Your influence and example will always be in our heart. Till we meet again!
A celebration of life will be scheduled at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in memory of Loree Litaker. [https://act.alz.org/site/SPageServer/]. Click on the DONATE button in the upper right corner.
