Lula Belle Powers' Obituary
Lula Belle George Powers, age 89, of Springdale, Arkansas, died September 29, 2024, at Northwest Medical Center in Springdale. She was born on September 15, 1935, in Fayetteville, Arkansas, to Rex and Mildred Terry George. Lula graduated from Fayetteville High School, Fayetteville Business College and the University of Arkansas School of Nursing. Lula worked as a secretary at Springdale High School from 1968 – 1984 and as a registered nurse at Northwest Medical Center from 1986 – 1998.
While her three children were preschool age, she enjoyed being a mother, cooking and sewing. The sewing included making Barbie Doll clothes to sell and for her daughter to give as gifts at birthday parties. As the children grew older, the family enjoyed many outdoor activities such as hiking, swimming, snow and water skiing. After retirement, some of her volunteer work included Jones Center for Families, Circle of Life Hospice, Northwest Medical Center and Willow Creek Women’s Hospital. Lula enjoyed traveling, photography and playing the piano, but most of all being with family. She was a member of the Robinson Avenue Church of Christ.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Deryl G. Powers; her parents, Rex and Mildred George; and one sister, Betty Seager.
Survivors include one daughter, Myra Pianalto and husband Steve of Gateway, Arkansas; two sons, Gary Powers and wife Karen of Vacaville, California, and Scott Powers and wife Donna of Fayetteville, Arkansas; five grandchildren, Zachary Pianalto of Texarkana, Zane Pianalto of Tontitown, Tyler Powers of Fayetteville, Amber Rothwell of Rogers, and Moriah Powers of Vacaville, CA; and six great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, October 4, 2024, at Robinson Avenue Church of Christ, Springdale. Burial will follow at Fairview Memorial Gardens in Fayetteville. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., Friday, October 4, 2024, at Robinson Avenue Church of Christ. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of your choice. Arrangements are with Nelson-Berna Funeral Home in Fayetteville.
