I started visiting the nursing home in 2020 and kind Peggy became one of my top favorites from the first day. We would go for walks, sometimes visiting people in other rooms together; do giant puzzles, have mini spelling bees, and sit outside and talk. She always had good advice.
Oh and her laughter! I would bring joke books just to hear her laugh! I wish I had know she was a Beautitian; I would have asked her to fix my hair.
My favorite times with Peggy involved singing. Some friends and I have church every Friday morning and she was a regular attender. Boy can she sing! I always dreamed of starting a nursing home choir and she would have been in the front row!
Then in 2023 for her birthday I brought her a cupcake and balloon. The visit lead to us singing songs from The Sound of Music at the top of our lungs! Folks walked by curiously, smiling as it wafted down the hall. Then she and I discussed how Julie Andrews was British. And with a British accent she would tell me that she couldn’t “speak British.” Hahaha. Lovely birthday celebration.
Just a day or two before she suddenly left us I had purchased her a CD with all the songs from The Sound of Music. Never got to give it to her. :(.
She is so missed. So loved. Such an empty spot left there now. But of course happy for her. She loves Jesus! Now she is with Him, the One who loves her too!
