Margaret Sudema Treffer Rogers' Obituary
Margaret Sudema Treffer Rogers was born June 1, 1932 in Superior Nebraska. She died in Fayetteville, Arkansas on February 9, 2024.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years James Franklin Rogers (Jim), parents Alma and Vernon Treffer, and younger brother David Jay Treffer. She is survived by sister Donna Lee Bair and brother Dennis Ray Treffer; son James Michael Rogers (Kathy), daughter Joyce Ann Hultgren (Bob) and Julie Lynn Parker (Brett); five grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
Called Margie Sue, she was a ‘Farmer’s Daughter’. As a child she learned about the challenges a farmer faced during the Dust Bowl years, moving from Superior to Jewell, Kansas and then seeking greener pastures in Centerton, Arkansas.
Margie was an avid reader and would walk to the Bentonville library during school lunch to check out the latest Laura Ingalls Wilder book. As an adult she loved works by James Michener, Larry McMurtry and Frank McCourt. Her favorite movies were Giant and The Thorn Birds. Margie kept journals of important events in her life and wrote humorous and affectionate poems to her children.
Margie met her future husband Jim in Bentonville and their first date was to the movie theatre which developed into an occasional date at the AQ Chicken House, all the way in Springdale. Margie always pointed out that she had a car and Jim didn't, so they most likely took hers! Their married life moved them from Bentonville to Oklahoma, Kansas, and a return to Arkansas in the mid 70s.
Margie loved homemaking and was a traditional wife and mother. Her hobbies included sewing her daughters’ clothes and doll clothes, embroidery, crocheting, home decorating and quilting.
Margie’s greatest joys were everyday things: sitting on her back deck with morning coffee, rearranging furniture, creating thru her needle and thread, and reading.
Margie taught by example how to show grace and be loyal to others. She never wanted to put anyone to any trouble. Those who knew her loved her sweet smile, gracious demeanor, and frequently sassy sense of humor.
Her family is grateful for the unconditional love and ninety one years of life that she gave. Visitation will be on Monday February 12, 2024 from 5:30 until 6:30; and a chapel service will be held on Tuesday February 13, 2024 at 10 am, both at Moore’s Chapel of Fayetteville. Burial will follow at Son’s Chapel Cemetery.
