Margaret "Marnie" Webb's Obituary
A strong, vibrant and loving woman who was the last of her generation, Margaret “Marnie” Webb, passed away on Tuesday, April 20, 2021, in Little Rock, Arkansas.
She was born December 15, 1926, near Winnipeg, Manitoba, the daughter of Albert and Rose Phillips. She was raised in Montgomery, Illinois. Following graduation from West Aurora High School, she attended nursing school at St. Charles Hospital in Aurora. Eventually her career took her to Florida where she met the love of her life, Bryan Webb.
She and Bryan were married in 1952, making their first home in Florida. In 1955, they moved to Fayetteville, Arkansas, and raised their family of three girls and one boy. For many years, she concentrated on raising four children, including being a Scout Leader, supporting them in piano and art lessons and teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. When her children grew older she returned to nursing, retiring from the University of Arkansas Health Center as a Nurse Practitioner in 1991. Always the consummate caregiver, she lovingly supported her husband Bryan through illness until his death in 2010.
Somehow the list of activities and accomplishments doesn’t adequately describe the woman who did them. Everyone who knew her knew that she had opinions. And yet every one of them was informed by her intelligence, her passion for fairness and ethical behavior, and her magnificent heart.
She leaves behind a legacy of children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews and a legion of friends who will forever remember her with love and joy.
She is survived by her children, Martha (Larry) Pickett of Milton, FL; Thomas (Lee Ann) of Longview, TX, Carolyn (Randy) Westbrook of Tulsa, OK, Linda (Urs) Jeker of Frick, Switzerland, and 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her infant daughter Mary Margaret; her husband Bryan; and her siblings, Dorothy Spring, and Herbert, Albert and James Phillips.
Funeral services will be scheduled at a later date in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Memorial contributions may be made to: Professor Bryan Webb Scholarship; University of Arkansas Dept of Electrical Engineering, 800 West Dickson Street, Fayetteville, AR 72701.
