You were a friend
to more people than I could count,
a fierce heart
wrapped in human edges.
A woman who didn’t always say it right,
but still showed up
with love in her hands—
even at the end.
I held those hands.
Until I wasn't able, and I'll always cherish that.
You chose to be “Yummi”—
not grandma,
not something ordinary—
because even your love
needed its own name.
And I’ll carry that name
like something warm in my chest
for the rest of my life.
You drank coffee at the end—
like you were still discovering
little pieces of living
even while letting go.
And you were surrounded by love,
by presence, by us.
By those who went before you.
We found you a beautiful place to rest your head, mama.
But I know you—
you were never meant
to stay still for long.
I didn't say goodbye.
It was too absolute of word
Not soft enough
for a love like this.
Instead, I’ll say
what I know is true—
what I’ll carry
on the days that feel too heavy
and the nights that echo your absence:
See you later, Mom.
Not gone—
just ahead of me.
God be with you, until we meet again.
Forever and always, your baby girl. 💗
