Marilyn Maxine Burkett's Obituary
Marilyn Maxine Burkett, 85, of Fayetteville, passed into the arms the Lord and her loving husband on June 27, 2024. She was born February 18, 1939, to Roscoe and Roma Ambrose.
Marilyn lived in, and attended, Fayetteville schools until her graduation from Fayetteville High School in 1957. This is where she met the love of her life, and upon graduation, married Wesley Burkett. They then moved to Topeka, Kansas, where Wes was stationed at Forbes Air Force Base. It was here they would start a family before returning to Fayetteville to start careers and continuing to grow their family.
Marilyn began her working career in the late 1960’s in the business office at the Springdale Water Dept. until she took a position as ER Coordinator at Springdale Hospital in the early 1970’s. There she received several awards for her Hospital Management. In 1982, Marilyn and Wes moved to Odessa, Texas, where Wes had taken a position of Vice President of M Bank. There she continued to work in the medical field. Upon Wes’ retirement in 1987, they returned to Fayetteville to be closer to family. Marilyn then went to work at Health South until her retirement in the late 1990’s.
Marilyn was always on the go and enjoyed spending time withfamily and friends. She loved her family more than anything and she will be greatly missed. Marilyn was a member of Cross Church in Fayetteville. She is preceded in death by her husband of 53 years Wes Burkett; daughter-in-law Carol Burkett; brother John Ambrose, and parents Roscoe and Roma Ambrose.
She is succeeded by daughter Cheryl Culp and husband Jim of Elkins; son Wesley Burkett, Jr. of Fayetteville; daughter Michelle Kelsay and husband James of Durham; sister Patricia Welker of Wichita, Kansas; 8 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be help at 11:00 am Tuesday, July 2, at Moore’s Chapel in Fayetteville, with interment to follow in the Fayetteville National Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Dan Culp, Trey Burkett, Kordell Burkett, Triston Ice, Blaize Ice, and Blanton Kelsay.
Visitation will be held 5-7 pm Monday, July 1st, at Moore’s Chapel.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, American Cancer Association, and the Arthritis Foundation.
