Mark Edward Risk's Obituary
Mark Edward Risk, age 71, of Fayetteville, passed away peacefully on October 6, 2025. He was born September 16, 1954, in Dearborn, Michigan, to Oliver and Hazel Johnson Risk. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Beverly Ragland, and her husband, Jim Ragland.
Mark graduated from West Bloomfield High School before attending the University of Arkansas, where he earned his master’s degree before later returning as a respected professor in real estate.
Mark made Fayetteville his lifelong home and dedicated his career to both education and real estate. A proud University of Arkansas alumnus and later a real estate professor at the university, he inspired countless students and professionals with his knowledge, honesty, and love for helping others succeed. He was a member of the Rotary Club of Fayetteville and the National Association of Realtors and was known for his unmatched work ethic and genuine care for the people he worked with.
Beyond his professional life, Mark was known for his sharp intelligence, curiosity, and ability to connect with anyone. He had a deep passion for music, architecture, art, and Razorback sports—each reflecting his love of creativity, expression, and community. Whether discussing a favorite building design, a classic record, or a game day at Razorback Stadium, Mark had a way of making every conversation engaging and thoughtful. His interests were as broad as his compassion, and he found joy in sharing those passions with the people around him. Above all else, he loved deeply and gave selflessly, always putting the needs of those he cared for before his own.
Mark is survived by his son, Logan Risk (Emily) of Fayetteville; two brothers, John Risk (Sojourna) and James Risk (Andrea); and his former wife and forever friend, Bobette Rieff. He will also be deeply missed by many close friends, colleagues, and former students who will carry forward his influence and warmth, and by numerous nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 14, 2025, at Moore’s Chapel. Graveside services will follow at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at Mount Airy Cemetery near Clarksville, Arkansas, under the direction of Moore’s Chapel. The graveside service will be reserved for family and close friends, with a larger public celebration of Mark’s life to be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, a scholarship fund will be established in Mark’s memory.
