Martha Ruth Shackelford's Obituary
Martha Ruth Shackelford passed away on December 30th, 2023, at Willard Walker Hospice House surrounded by her family. She was born in Delaney, Arkansas, on March 29, 1930, to Floyd and Dilla (Hollingsworth) Shackelford. Martha was preceded in death by her parents; sisters Wilma, Velma, Flora, and Mary; brothers Wade, Albert, Olin, Carl, and Roy; son-in-law Frank Richert, and her husband of 71 years, Glen Shackelford of Hazel Valley, Arkansas. She is survived by two sisters, Floy Robbins of Crosses, Arkansas, and Dora Jordan of Wichita, Kansas; two daughters, Glenda Richert and Kathy (Billy) Baker, both of Elkins; a son, Wayne (Cindy) Shackelford of Hazel Valley; three grandsons, Duane (Marla) Richert of Elkins, John (Pam) Richert of Lowell; Kerry Shackelford of Elkins; a granddaughter, Jessica (Steven) Carter of Elkins; twelve great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.
Martha spent the majority of her life taking care of others, as she had a servant’s heart. She loved to cook and would insist on making a meal for anyone who came into her home. You could always hear her singing a song or whistling a tune while she worked. Martha was a devoted Christian and a long-time member of the Hazel Valley Community Church.
Visitation will be 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm Wednesday January 3, 2024 at Moore’s Chapel. Funeral service will be 10:00 am Thursday at the Hazel Valley Community Church under the direction of Moore’s Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Hazel Valley Community Church Cemetery in her memory.
