Michael Cale Maxwell's Obituary
Michael Cale Maxwell passed away October 6, 2023 after a valiant battle with lung disease. Mike was born in Fayetteville, Arkansas on July 29, 1952 to Morris Clark Maxwell and Eula Brown Maxwell.
He was a graduate of Fayetteville High School in 1970 and the University of Arkansas in 1975.
He married Rebecca Conlee , from Little Rock, on March 5, 1976.
Mike had many hobbies, and gathered friends along the way. He was an avid “catch and release” fisherman enjoying the deep sea, Mexico and the local lakes. He was a hunter, a trail rider on his ATV and a lover of travel and new adventures. He enjoyed riding motorcycles, with several long adventures to Yellowstone, Canada and the Florida Keys, always with Becky on the back. He had a love/hate relationship with golf, but always enjoyed the fellowship. He even managed to become a member of the “hole in one” club, which he deemed pretty miraculous.
Mike had a long career in the medical field beginning with ten years with Dupont Pharmaceuticals. His thirty years with Smith and Nephew Richards as an orthopaedic sales representative became legendary to some. He was the first sales representative to live in the fast growing area of NW Arkansas at the time. His dependability, no nonsense work ethic, loyalty and quick dry wit led to success in his field and to lifelong friendships with several very special customers who enjoyed years of “golf camp” together. He was once named National Sales Representative of the year among 500 sales people in the company. He developed the territory in NW Arkansas as well as Harrison, AR. He received the President’s Award at Smith and Nephew numerous times, which was the highest honor in the company.
After retirement, Mike enjoyed time at Beaver Lake making many new friends there, and his Meals on Wheels route. Spending time with family and friends, especially his grandkids brought him great joy including a few trips to the beach.
Mike is survived by his wife of 47 years, his daughter, Marty Maxwell Lane, his son-in-law Patrick Lane, his grandson, Arlo Maxwell Lane and his granddaughter, Astrid Maxwell Lane.
We would like to thank the kind and caring helpers from Hospice that allowed his passing to be at home and all our friends in the medical field and beyond for their love and support during this time.
A service and reception to celebrate Mike’s life will be Friday, October 20th at 1:00 in the Parish Hall at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Fayetteville at 224 N East Ave. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Moore’s Chapel in Fayetteville.
Memorials may be made to St. Paul’s /Community Meals or the Northwest Arkansas Food Bank.
