Nadine Mitchell, age 83, of Tyer, Texas, passed away Saturday, July 8, 2023, in Tyler. She was born April 23, 1940, in Japton, Arkansas, the daughter of Marvin Eugene and Lottie Caroline Jackson Garrett. Nadine was one of ten siblings; she was the eighth child and seventh girl born to Marvin and Lottie Garrett. Nadine was preceded in death by her parents and son, Timothy Behrens Mitchell.
Nadine was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Nadine and her husband, Bob, recently celebrated 61 years of marriage. They started their life together in Fayetteville, Arkansas, and they lived in the canal zone in Panama; Plano, Texas; Memphis, Tennessee; Bella Vista, Arkansas; and Tyler, Texas. Nadine attended the University of Tulsa and the University of Texas at Dallas. She worked as an accountant for many years, including tenure at Cigna Healthcare and Jimmy Dean Foods. She ended her professional career as the office manager for an anesthesiologist in Memphis. In 2000, Nadine and Bob retired to Bella Vista, Arkansas. Together, they ran a successful antique business—acquiring, refinishing, and selling antique furniture. They also enjoyed traveling worldwide and have visited many unique locations, such as Egypt, Russia, and several countries in Europe. Eventually, Bob and Nadine relocated to Texas to be closer to their daughter, Liz, and their two grandchildren, Ross and Maggie. Nadine was an excellent cook, an incredible seamstress, a passionate gardener, and an avid reader. Her love of reading started early; she worked as a librarian for many years prior to working as an accountant. She passed her love of reading on to her children and grandchildren.
