Nathan A. Altman's Obituary
Nathan A. Altman, 30, died September 29, 2006 in Fayetteville. He was born on December 1, 1975, in Wynne, Arkansas.
Nathan grew up a ?military brat,? travelling around the world and attending Department of Defense Dependent Schools. He graduated from Broadneck High School in Annapolis, Maryland, in 1993. Having always been a Razorback fan, he attended the University of Arkansas for six years, completing a BA and an MA in English. He completed an MFA in Creative Writing at Texas State University where he taught English Composition for several years.
Nathan returned to Northwest Arkansas in June of 2005 and began working as a writer for the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette. He loved the scenic beauty of Fayetteville and the local area and enjoyed spending time outdoors---hiking, caving in Devil?s Den, and canoeing the area?s rivers.
Nathan?s passions were reading and writing. As a child he was an avid reader----devouring the books of C.S. Lewis, J.R.R. Tolkien, and Terry Brooks. He decided to be a writer and began writing his own fantasies, complete with elaborate maps, around age ten. He never lost sight of that ambition; he had completed several short stories and was working on a novel.
He is survived by his parents Larry and Wanda Altman of Fayetteville, one sister; Amy Slone of Fayetteville and his fiancée; Leah Pierson of Fayetteville.
