I was saddened to hear of Tug's passing. We first met at Craig Air Force Base in Alabama where we taught instrument flying in the Link ground simulators. Tug, "Duke"' Ellington and I were buddies, golfing together, hanging out, laughing a lot and forming a bond that lasted through the years. Tug was a true gentleman and I never heard him say an unkind word about anyone, not even our nemesis Warrant Officer Cox who ran the Link Training Department. I was fortunate to reconnect with Duke and Tug a couple of years ago, and enjoyed catching up with them and meeting their lovely wives even if it was only through e-mail. Tug's favorite saying was "Well, if that don't beat the bugs abiting". Rather a premonition for a future entomologist. God speed Tug. A life well lived.

Dr. Tugwell was an top-notch entomologist, working tirelessly for the rice and cotton farmers of Arkansas. He was also a true gentleman: kind, helpful, generous. I owe him a great debt of gratitude for mentoring me when I was a new faculty member at the University. He is to me the epitome of what a scientist, a scholar, a colleague, a professor should be.
I will always remember "Tug" with the fondest of memories. Tug was a true gentleman and scientist. He retired early in my program, but I appreciated him as a scientist and as a person. A gracious man who shared his knowledge and wisdom. The world needs more like him.

On behalf of the Lloyd & Ruby Warren family, please accept our sympathy for Ramona and all of Phil’s family. My dad, Lloyd, had a lot of respect for Phil, both professionally and personally. In their later years, my parents were always tickled to run into Phil and Ramona at various university events.

I have many wonderful memories of Phil when you two were dating. I remember thinking what a perfect match you were. He had a wonderful sense of humor, and we laughed a lot. Although we have not been able to spend much time together since college, we did get together when John and I went to Fayetteville, and it was always a good time. We will keep you and all who loved Phil in our thoughts and prayers.
