Oda Bartsch Mulloy's Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we bid farewell to a remarkable woman, Oda Bartsch Mulloy, 96, who completed her earthly calling on Thursday, December 14th, 2023. Oda’s journey through life was marked by resilience, strength, and an unwavering commitment to sharing her memories by writing short stories. Born in Hamburg, Germany, on November 2nd, 1927, to Helmut and Rose Bartsch, the second child to her only brother and childhood best friend Harold.
Oda grew up against the tumultuous backdrop of World War II. She lost both her father who was a hometown doctor and her brother. Being of mixed Jewish descent in Nazi Germany her childhood was shaped by the challenges of wartime. Despite the hardships, Oda’s spirit remained unbroken and her early experiences fueled a deep well of courage and optimism within her.
She immigrated to the US in 1951, completed her education at Dickinson College, settled in Philadelphia, and married John Mulloy, with whom she raised three sons. Oda has lived as an English teacher, bacteriologist, historian, author, museum docent, radio personality, wife, mother and grandmother. Oda authored two short story books; I Grew Up In A Castle and Mother’s Last Adventure. In addition to her many achievements, Oda was a beloved member of the Fayetteville community for over 50 years. Her warmth, compassion and generosity touched the lives of those fortunate enough to know her. Whether sharing her stories on the radio and at local events or offering a comforting word to a friend, Oda’s presence left an indelible mark on all who crossed her path.
She is survived by her sons; Vincent Mulloy (Mary) and Clement Mulloy (Yvonne), grandchildren John, Annie, Luke, Mark, Christina, Matthew and Michael. Preceding Oda in death were her parents and brother, husband John, and son Justin (Fusun)
A Funeral Mass will be on Tuesday, January 2nd at Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Fayetteville, AR at 1:30 pm under the direction of Moore’s Chapel in Fayetteville.
