Patricia June Hopkins' Obituary
Patricia June Hopkins, age 90, of Fayetteville, Arkansas, passed away on January 29, 2024, in Fayetteville, Arkansas. She was born on June 1, 1933, in Springdale, Arkansas, to Claude Lee Clardy and Ora Ann (Shockley) Clardy. Patricia was raised on a large beautiful farm located at the convergence of the White and War Eagle Rivers. The family was quite close and their loving bonds continued through adulthood with frequent gatherings down on the farm. Patricia married M.E. Hopkins in the spring of 1957. They loved and laughed for 62 years.
She graduated from the University of Arkansas with two bachelor’s degrees, in chemistry and history, followed by post graduate studies. Patricia worked as a medical technologist at Springer Hospital in Little Rock before moving to Tulsa, Oklahoma, where she was employed at Hillcrest Hospital. She met M.E. in Tulsa when mutual friends set them up on a blind date; the couple married five months later. During their courtship M.E. asked Pat about her goals in life, one of them was to travel. She and M.E. went from shore to shore in the U.S. and also explored western Europe.
She enjoyed her role as homemaker. She became quite the cook, serving elaborate meals for Hop’s colleagues. Pat always had lovely flower gardens, and her favorites were her bulbs and roses. She loved to sew and made many home improvement items such as curtains and slipcovers for her furniture. She enjoyed learning about and collecting art prints and books. She was an avid reader.
She was preceded in death by her husband, M.E. Hopkins; grandson, Ian Riley; brothers, Ellsworth Clardy, Harold Clardy, and Hurley Clardy; and sisters, Claudia Thornsberry and Katheryn Logue.
Patricia is survived by daughter, Lisa Hopkins; granddaughter, Lauren Ballard and husband Robbie; and great grandchildren, Flynnian Ballard and Captola Ballard. She loved her nieces and nephews, Carolyn Clardy, Jeanette Clardy Lea Ann Rosamond, and husband Steve, Sue Reimer, Jeff Logue and Lynda Starr.
