Peter Robert Hofstra's Obituary
Peter Robert Hofstra, age 94, of Rogers passed away November 30, 2020 in Rogers. He was born March 8, 1926 in Prospect Park, New Jersey to Peter and Cora Delazier Hofstra. He was preceded in death by his parents and beloved wife Letty
Peter was a WW 2 Navy Veteran. After his service he completed his college at Rutgers University and went on to Rutgers Law School. After graduating in 1951 he was admitted to the New Jersey Bar. He Practiced in Paterson until 1958, he then moved to Arizona. While in Arizona he owned a concert block manufacturing and ready-mix concrete company. Peter became a licensed building contractor and had several commercial and residential projects. He also very much enjoyed cattle ranching.
He was blessed with 7 children from his first wife Margery Helen Enes Hofstra Patricia Pelkey of Chicago, IL, Nancy Johnson of Rochester, NY, Peter Hofstra Jr of Mustang, OK, Beth LaRusso of Bunker Hill, WV, Susan Hofstra of Gaithersburg, MD, Dr. Thomas Hofstra of Los Angeles, CA, Kathy Seeland of State College, PA; 15 Grandchildren and 19 Great Grandchildren. He married Leatrice Lorain Bender Hargus in 1969 which he took on 6 step and adoptive children Charles Hargus of Bentonville, AR, Richard Hargus of Phoenix, AZ, Patrick Hargus of Rogers, AR, Susan Wilson of Rogers, AR, Leslie Oberlender of Rogers, AR, Mark Hofstra of Rogers, AR; a sister Bertha Fauver of Plymouth, New Hampshire; 9 Grandchildren and 17 Great Grandchildren
He then moved to Lead Hill, Arkansas in 1979 where he and his wife Letty continued their love of cattle ranching. Some years later they moved to Rogers, Arkansas. While he basically was retired, he found many projects to keep him occupied. He and his wife were very active in the Immanuel Baptist Church Haiti Mission projects of which they made 22 trips. Since 2003 he was a member of Grace Baptist Church and in 2020 became a member of First Baptist Church of Rogers. He was a proud Rotarian since 1953. He was very proud of his Dutch Heritage; his Father and Maternal Grandfather were immigrants from the Netherlands.
Visitation will be held 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Monday December 7, 2020 at Stockdale-Moody Funeral Service with funeral service starting at 12:00 p.m. A private burial will be at the Fayetteville National Cemetery.
