Phyllis M. Wirt's Obituary
Phyllis Margaret Wirt, age 97 of Fayetteville passed away Saturday February 22, 2025. She was born January 18, 1928 in Wausau, Wisconsin to Otto and Lucy Pries. She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Royal Wirt; daughter Vicki Nanos; three sisters, Shirley Jones, Naomi Anderson, Mary Sousa and brother David Pries. She is survived by her brother Michael Pries and wife Ethel of Illinois; daughters Linda Chada and husband Doug of Wonder Lake Illinois, Sharon Schmitz of Fayetteville and Peggy Alexander and husband Steve of Orange, California; seven grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great-grandchildren.
Phyllis grew up in Wisconsin and settled in Arlington Heights, Illinois a few years after marriage. There she raised her family and worked for Carl Sandberg Elementary School as a secretary. In 1978 she and Royal moved to the Savoy community in Arkansas and raised chickens for Tyson Company. Phyllis enjoyed spending her time sewing, gardening and painting ceramics as well as other crafts. She was a member of the Howe Savoy Bible Church and volunteered her time with the Savoy Extension Homemakers Club, the EHC Washington County Fair/Junior Canning Division, the 4H and many other community activities. Most of all, she loved being with her family and grandchildren, and spending time outdoors enjoying nature and tending to her dogs, bunnies, chickens and peacocks. She was deeply loved and appreciated by her family and will be fondly remembered.
Visitation will be Wednesday, February 26, at 1:00 P.M. with Funeral to follow at 2:00 P.M. at Moore’s Chapel in Fayetteville. A Celebration of Life Memorial will be held later in the spring.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Savoy Extension Homemakers Club, the Willard Walker Hospice Home or the Howe Savoy Bible Church
