R.D. McClelland
R.D. McClelland, age 90, of Fayetteville, died Monday, February 20, 2012, at Willard Walker Hospice Home in Fayetteville. He was born January 21, 1922 in Walnut Grove, Arkansas to Charlie and Rose Culver McClelland. He was preceded in death by his parents, 4 sisters and 5 brothers and one grandson. He served 39 months in the Air Force in World War II on Tinian Island as an airplane mechanic. He enjoyed singing gospel music, fishing and camping. He was a deacon and charter member of First Baptist Church in Greenland.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Geneva Cheevers McClelland, three daughters, Carolyn Gammons of Springfield, Missouri; Beverly Beard of Fayetteville and Sandi Farley of Mobile, Alabama, 5 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and 6 great- great-grandchildren, also survived by nephews and nieces, several step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren and a host of friends.
Family will receive friends and relatives 5:00 – 7:00 PM today, Wednesday at Moore’s Chapel. Funeral service will be held 10:00 am, Thursday, February 23, 2012, at First Baptist Church in Greenland with Brother Eric Howerton officiating, under the direction of Moore’s Chapel in Fayetteville with interment following at Baptist Ford Cemetery in Greenland. .
In lieu of flowers the family respectively requests donations be made to the Willard Walker Hospice Home, Box 325, Fayetteville, AR 72701 or to First Baptist Church, Box 5 Greenland, AR 72737.
