Rae M. Oxford's Obituary
Rae M. Oxford died on August 12, 2022 at her home in Fayetteville. She was born on February 3, 1924, in Gillespie, Illinois, the daughter of Alleyne Hemphill Mauzy and Carl D. Mauzy. She was preceded in death by her brother, Glenn Mauzy.
She met Charles W. Oxford in Texarkana, Arkansas in 1945 when he was on a week-long leave from the U.S. Navy. They were married from Christmas Eve, 1946 until his death in 2005.
Rae is survived by two daughters, Connie Tharel of Fayetteville and Cathy Bozynski (Tony) of Little Rock and five grandchildren: Nathan Tharel (Zuleika), Philip Tharel, Susan Tharel Koch (Emil), Rachel Bozynski Richey (Paul) and Tyler Bozynski (Rayni). She is also survived by nine great grandchildren: Nora, Nehemiah and Marco Tharel; Mary Ellen, Charlotte and Catherine Richey; Bentley and Caitlyn Bozynski; and Miles Koch; and nieces and nephews: Mike Mauzy, Shirley Bynum, Larry Oxford, Barbara Morton and Charlotte Howe.
Rae graduated from Louisiana State University in 1945, majoring in education and piano. After teaching elementary school for several years, she dedicated her time to her family and community. She was an active member of First Baptist Church Fayetteville for almost 75 years, a 50-year member of PEO, a charter member of the Fayetteville Junior Civic League and a long-time member of University Women’s Club.
Rae was known for her sense of style and love of entertaining. She always endeavored to help newcomers to the church and community feel welcome and included. Her family will remember her constant love and support, her quick smile and sense of humor, her love of hymns and the many fun traditions which made even the ordinary feel special.
