Raymond Shipman's Obituary
Mr. Raymond G. "Ray" Shipman, 80 of Fayetteville, Arkansas passed away September 8, 2005 in Fayetteville. He was born September 17, 1924 to Hulett Andrew and Augusta (Weiss) Shipman in Middletown, New York.
He was a Vice President of the Treasury for New York Telephone, retiring in 1977 after 30 years with the company. He moved his family to Fayetteville where he began a 15-year career as the Athletic Business Manager for the University of Arkansas Razorbacks.
He was an aerographer in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a member of the Fayetteville - Springdale Elk's Lodge and served as a board member and treasurer for the Friends of the Fayetteville Library. He was honored with a Lifetime Membership to the Friends in recognition of his many years of volunteer service. He also mended the library books behind the scenes. He had a mischievous sense of humor, loved to read and never failed to complete the crossword puzzle each day.
He is survived by his wife Corinne Shipman, three daughters; Susan Johnson of Fayetteville, AR, Lise Lipko of Farmington, AR, Martha Taylor and husband Clay of Conway, AR, one brother, Hulett "Doc" F. Shipman of Hurst, Texas, three grandchildren; Amanda Lipko of Kent, OH, Jay Taylor of Fayetteville, AR, and Sam Taylor of Conway, AR.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 11, 2005 from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM at Nelson-Berna Funeral Home in Fayetteville.
Memorial services will be held on Monday; September 12, 2005 at 10:00 AM in the Chapel of Nelson-Berna Funeral Home with The Reverend Doctor Maurice E. Roberts officiating. Burial will follow at Fayetteville National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Friends of the Fayetteville Library, 401 W. Mountain Street, Fayetteville, Arkansas 72701.
