Roberta Morgan's Obituary
Roberta Morgan lived her life with open arms and an even bigger heart. A devoted mother, loyal friend, and enthusiastic collector of cookbooks, Roberta brought joy, comfort, and compassion to everyone she met.
Born on October 29, 1937, in Cane Hill, Arkansas, to Preston and Isabel Barker Lackey, Roberta filled her 87 years with laughter, wisdom, and unwavering love. She made history as one of the first African American students to integrate Fayetteville High School in the fall of 1954—a resilient pioneer who helped pave the way for future generations.
With a strong calling to care for others, Roberta pursued a career in nursing. She served faithfully for many years at Washington Regional Medical Center, where her healing hands and gentle spirit left a lasting impact on both patients and colleagues.
Roberta was a lifelong member of St. James Baptist Church in Fayetteville, where her faith anchored her through every season of life.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Preston, and Isabel Lackey; her beloved husband, Bobby Lee Morgan; her son, Kelvin Morgan; and her siblings Preston Lackey Jr., Billy Ray Lackey, and Elnora Jackson.
Roberta leaves behind a legacy of love and strength. She is survived by her son, Bobby Sturdivant Morgan; her brother, Thomas Wayne Lackey and his wife (Marvia); her sister, Joann Goodley and her husband (Ferral) all of Fayetteville; two cherished grandchildren, Christopher Morgan and Korena Morgan; six great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends who will carry her memory in their hearts forever.
A celebration of Roberta’s life will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, July 26, 2025, at Moore’s Funeral Chapel, followed by a burial at Oak Cemetery in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
