Roland Edward Moore's Obituary
Roland Edward Moore passed away at Circle of Life Hospice in Springdale on Thursday, November 13, 2014. He was born May 1, 1921 in Trenton, New Jersey to Clifton G. Moore and Gretchen Hofstetter Moore.
He joined the Air Force in 1942 and served in the Pacific during World War II as a Flight Engineer/Gunner on heavy bombers.
After a honorable discharge in 1945, Roland studied mechanical engineering at the University of Arkansas and obtained his degree in 1950. He became a registered professional engineer in Louisiana and Texas in 1951.
Roland spent the majority of his career with Texas Eastern Gas Transmission Corporation in Shreveport and later in Houston, retiring as Vice President in 1981.
When he retired, he and his late wife moved to Eureka Springs on Beaver Lake where he designed and built a home. They spent time traveling and were members of the Good Sam’s Club.
Roland volunteered at the Jones Center in Springdale and in his later years volunteered on a mission trip to Chile.
Roland was complex and intellectual-interested in art, history, science, the physical world and the possibilities of the future.
He was a great leader, a kind soul and a wonderful friend, devoted husband and loving father.
Roland was predeceased by his parents, his brother Loren Moore, and his wife of 47 years, Mary Jewell Merren Moore.
Roland is survived by his daughters; Sharon Wimberly of Fayetteville, Laure Gansert and husband John of Houston, and his son, Matthew Moore and wife, Shawn Hadley of Anchorage, Alaska.
He is also survived by his grandchildren; Fenn Wimberly of Harrison; Susan Wimberly and husband, Dave Smih of Olympia, Washington; Kem Wimberly and husband Stan Hutcheson of Fayetteville; Jared Gansert of Houston; Sutton and Seamus Moore of Anchorage; and one great-granddaughter, Katherine Wimberly of Minerva, New York.
A celebration of his life will be at 2:00 PM Monday, December 1, 2014 at Moore’s Chapel in Fayetteville and his remains will be interred at Forest Park Cemetery in Shreveport.
