Ronald Gene Brewer's Obituary
Ronald “Ron” G. Brewer, a beloved husband, brother, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend departed this world on Tuesday, November 29, 2022, after six weeks of battling acute hypoxic respiratory failure that followed a successful heart valve replacement. He was born June 21, 1950, in Fayetteville to the late William “Bill” and Virginia Brewer. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Vicky S. Brewer. They have one son Michael C. (Maranda) Brewer of Tomball, Texas, and one daughter, Michelle C. (Jayson) Conley of Springfield, Missouri. Ron is also survived by his brother and two sisters: Kerry Brewer of Fayetteville, Arkansas, Sue (Jim) Lindersmith of Little Rock, Arkansas, and Cindy Watts of Carrollton Texas. To his delight, he has seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild: Maelani (Logan) Kelly, Megan Brewer, Raelyn Garrett, Lacie Garrett, Christopher Brewer, Jayleigh Conley, Dakota Conley, and great-granddaughter Lillian Barthlemy as well as multiple nieces and nephews.
Ron graduated from Fayetteville High School, class of 1968, where he played saxophone in the band. He obtained his BA in Business from the University of Arkansas in 1972 and soon after married his wife, Vicky, on June 30, 1972. Ron served his military obligation in Fayetteville's Army Reserve Civil Affairs Unit and worked for McIlroy Bank as Vault Teller for several years until he joined his parents in the family freight company, Mistletoe Express. When his father retired, Ron and his brother, Kerry, continued until they sold the franchise in 1984. Ron then continued in transportation logistics as a fleet manager for Tyson Foods until his retirement twenty-five years later.
When looking at Ron’s life he clearly prioritized his family. He supported his wife in her career with special needs children and even became the treasurer of the local chapter of the United Cerebral Palsy organization for several years. Throughout their 50 years together, he participated in many school activities and events that involved her students. As his family grew, he became a member of the Methodist church and held an occasional committee position. He was very involved in his children's lives from a young age. He participated in Cub Scout activities and then became a Boy Scout Leader for his son’s troop, assisted in coaching his daughter’s basketball team, and coached his son’s intramural team. His ideal vacation always involved camping and fishing with family. However, these trips were not exclusive to his family. He often enjoyed camping and fishing alongside the family of his childhood friend as well.
In everything he did, both professionally and relationally, he did it with his dry humor and big heart. That was Ron, a caring, dedicated, persistent family man who provided for and supported the three generations of his family with everything he had to give. For that and much more, his family loves him immensely and will hold his memory close to their hearts.
Visitation will be Friday, December 2, 2022, from 5-7PM at Moore’s Chapel in Fayetteville. Funeral Service will be Saturday, December 3, 2022, at 10AM at Moore’s Chapel will burial to follow in Evergreen Cemetery.
