Ruth Eldon Ruble Yates' Obituary
Mrs. Ruth Eldon Ruble Yates, 82 of Bentonville, AR passed away Saturday, May 21, 2005 in Bentonville, AR after a lengthy illness. She was born December 10, 1923 to Hughey and Reba Ricketts Ruble in Pea Ridge, AR. She was raised in Pea Ridge where she spent her primary school years. Ruth was proud to be fifth generation Benton Countian. She graduated from Fayetteville High School in 1939 and attended Fayetteville Business College.
Ruth was strong minded, independent feminist before the term was popular. At the age of eighteen, she left Arkansas and worked for the Veterans Administration Central Office in Washington D.C., as a secretary during World War II. Ruth continued to work as a bookkeeper and secretary during much of her life, receiving a Certification of Professional Secretary by the National Secretaries Association for her work.
Ruth was married to William N. Yates III, September 24, 1942 in Long Beach, CA. After retiring Ruth and Bill returned to Arkansas, making Bentonville their home. In her retirement years Ruth became proficient on the computer, keeping in touch with her family and her wide circle of friends throughout the country. Ruth was an enthusiastic cross stitcher, enjoyed working cross word puzzles, and an avid reader. She had a passion for traveling, seeing many parts of the world.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, parents, a sister, and a nephew. She is survived by her aunt, Dot Cloe Henning of Rogers, AR, a nephew Don Yates of Las Vegas, NV, and a nephew Ron Yates of Eagle Point, OR. With the support of her family and friends, Ruth faced the final chapter of her life with courage, spirit, and dignity that carried her through the years.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 AM Tuesday, May 24, 2005 in the Chapel of Nelson-Berna Funeral Home in Fayetteville with Chaplain Mickey Merrick officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Fayetteville.
