Ruth Schafer's Obituary
Ruth Schafer’s love of life didn’t come to an end with her death. Ruth passed away on March 12, 2021 at the age of 83. Her loved ones will continue to honor her legacy by living their lives to the fullest.
Ruth was born in Texarkana, Arkansas to the late Robert E and Mary L Huddleston. She was a Registered Nurse. She graduated from St Edward Nursing School in 1959. Ruth worked in the field of geriatrics in the state of Texas until 1971 when she moved herself and her two daughters, the late Mary Joy Elzey of Bentonville and Martha Kay Grimes of Prairie Grove, to Fayetteville, where she was the Director of Nursing Services at Sunrise Manor Nursing Home and then, Geriatric Coordinator at Fayetteville City Hospital. This is where she met and married the late Carl B Schafer in 1988. With loving hands and beautiful heart she cared for and assisted many NWA residents through their final chapter of life.
The simplest pleasures in life brought great joy to Ruth. She loved worshiping the Lord at Wiggins Methodist church, and volunteering her time at Community Emergency Outreach. Her personality was contagious to everyone she met.
Ruth will truly be missed by her daughter Martha Kay, her granddaughter Monica Conley of Fayetteville and grandson George (Alicia) Carpenter of Elkins, great grandchildren Kearah Conley, Jaxon Conley, Bracus Carpenter and Kaylee Carpenter, brother John L (Nancy)Huddleston of Fayetteville, two nieces Margaret Snider of Ridgeland, MS and Cindy (Derek)Gleason of Fayetteville, and nephew Joe (Judy) Cohea of Lincoln.
Ruth will be laid to rest on Saturday, March 20, 2021 2pm at the Farmington, Arkansas Cemetery N. Double Springs Rd. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to Community Emergency Outreach at CEOFAYETTEVILLE.ORG
