Saundra George Parkerson's Obituary
Saundra George Parkerson, age 80 passed away on August 28, 2023 after a long battle with ovarian cancer. Saundra “Sandy” Jean George was born at Elgin Air Force Base on February 6, 1943, to parents Mary S George and John W George. Their family traveled the United States with the military, including living in China for a year. Sandy began high school in Alamogordo, NM, and then moved and finished at Eureka High School in Missouri.
As a young adult, Sandy lived in Washington DC while working at a consulting firm, and then moved to Florida to work at Cape Canaveral Space Center. It was while working at Cape Canaveral that she met Victor Parkerson. They were married in Titusville, Florida in 1970.
They spent 34 years living in Las Cruces, New Mexico. While in Las Cruces, she worked at the First Presbyterian Church, and at the NMSU economic development department.
Vic and Sandy retired to Merritt Island, Florida, where they were active members at Merritt Island Presbyterian church.
In 2008 they moved to Fayetteville, AR, where they joined First United Presbyterian Church. Sandy enjoyed singing in the choir, participating in Sunday School, and being a member of Presbyterian Women Circle.
Sandy also spent time volunteering at Washington Regional Hospital and participating in Fayetteville Senior Center card groups.
Sandy is survived by spouse of 53 yrs, Victor Ross Parkerson; two daughters Katie Jackson and her husband Edward of Fayetteville, and Gail Parkerson of Portland, Oregon; three grandchildren Emily Jackson, Haley Jackson, and Cole Jackson.
She is preceded in death by her parents Mary S and John W George; brothers John W. George, Jr., Paul B. George, Donald W. George; and sister-in-law Jillene Parkerson Faulk.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Moore’s Chapel in Fayetteville. Memorial service will be 2:00 pm Sunday September 3, 2023 at First United Presbyterian Church in Fayetteville
