Shary Kay James February 23, 1940 – July 11, 2025
With deep sorrow but eternal hope, the family of Shary Kay James announces her passing surrounded by loved ones on July 11, 2025. Shary was born on February 23, 1940, in Port Arthur, Texas, to the late Jimmy and Birdie Swan.
A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, Shary lived a life that exemplified grace and loyalty to her friends and family. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Jerry Swan; her sister, Lynda Cone; and nephew Jeremy Swan. She is survived by her loving husband, Rodney James; her brother Terry Swan and his wife Melanie; her sons, Michael James and wife Julia, along with their children Austin and Cole; Rusty James and wife Ronda, with their children Gunnar, Scout, and Sutton, and many beloved nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
Shary was a proud graduate of Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, TX. She was also a breast cancer survivor who inspired many with her strength, courage, and unwavering spirit.
She loved spending time with her family, cooking, traveling to the beach, and cheering for her beloved Oklahoma State University Cowboys. Her cherished dog, Pistol Pete, was always by her side and brought her much happiness.
Shary was a woman of strong faith who loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She found great joy in attending Surrey Hills Baptist Church in Yukon, OK, for more than 40 years serving and singing in the choir. Her faith was the foundation of her life and a source of strength for those around her. Her servant's heart will be dearly missed but never forgotten.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in her memory to Susan G. Komen or Circle of Life Hospice in Bentonville, whose care and compassion brought comfort during her final days.
"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." – 2 Timothy 4:7
