Steve and I were Freshman roommates in 1966 at The University of Kansas. Just "pot luck" as to a roommate. Always enjoyed him with his laugh and a great sense of humor. He would take me into Kansas City, Overland Park to see his Mom and Bubba. Introduced me to many friends of his and met more of them at KU as well. Just found out today (1/16/2020) that Steve passed. Life finds ways to remind you of people that shaped a moment of your life. Unfortunately, this reminder usually comes when you hear of their passing. Steve Eiler shaped my life as a teenager growing up on a golf course in Bella Vista, AR. As assistant pro he was always encouraging myself and friends by playing golf with us or teasing us about our games and being “teenagers”. He had nicknames for all of us. But most importantly he made time for us and influenced our love for the game I still have today. RIP SKIPPY. Yes he had a nickname too given by head pro CHUCK HOUSE.
I’m so sad to hear of Steve’s passing. I worked with Steve at MCI. He was such a great guy. He always kept me smiling. Condolences to his family and friends.

New Steve from my early days moving to Arkansas 45 years ago from KCK.my Grandparents Ed and Lyle Desbien knew Steve and his parents by way of Bella Vista CC. Steve was always friendly and helpful, fun to talk to. I won the Bella Vista Club Championship in 1975,76 and Steve and late Chuck and Marilyn House we’re there to share with myself. Steve was also a mentor to others that I played with Doug Story, Greg Davis, Scott Curtis, Andy Lankford, Fred Woodmansee. I believe Steve also worked as the pro over at Holiday Island maybe back in early 80s. Like I said Steve Eiler and his entire family were very people persons. Easy to talk to and caring. I’m so sorry to hear of his passing. We all only get so many breaths and heart beats on this 3rd Rock from the sun. Steve seemed to find a way to make the most of those days. Success is measured not by wealth but by a life well lived. RIP Steve thanks for the memories from our youth.
