I had the privilege of coaching at Greenland H.S. in the late 90s and one of the first people I got to meet and fall in love with were David and Lisa Thornton. Rock solid people with great kids. I especially remember Zach and Craig with fond memories. David was very involved in his community and family and had a kind and giving personality. He was a good man and, as time moved on, I loved bumping into him, getting caught up with all the Greenland happenings long after Ladonna and I moved on to Bentonville and Springdale to coach and teach. You were taken way too soon, Hoss and I was shocked by your passing. I will pray for comfort for all of us who will mourn you and miss you. Rest in Peace, David. Mike Fotenopulos

David was such a family man. Whenever we visited from Scotland he would make an effort to come and see us. One time we were trying to move a lot of furniture and he just came with his truck, measured how to fit everything in the back and took it home for us.
He would bring his boat and family to see us at the lake and take folk out on the water, just enjoying company and being generous with his abilities and time. He was a wonderful big brother. I am devastated that he passed away at such a young age with so much ahead of him.

David was a great person who will definitely be missed. I always loved seeing him in Coach Larkan’s office and at football games and waited for his quick witted comment and then tried to match it with a comeback. I had the pleasure of getting to know him and Lisa when I was Craig and Tori’s principal. All my love and prayers to all of you during this time of healing.

Daivid was my friend and my go to person when in need. I would find myself lost in Memphis, Little Rock and even on a 2 lane road headed to east Arkansas and all I had to do was call him. He would say , tell me what you see. Super Dave could tell me exactly where I was and tell me exactly how to get where I was supposed to be. Of course a chuckle and Pam, I swear you could get lost anywhere.
David would walk in the door , shake his head , tell a joke , while the Ya-Ya’s were having coffee and planning something ,then proceed to the other room so we could gather at their kitchen table.
So many numerous sayings and jokes come to my mind ❤️ I will miss his laughter and sarcasm. I have felt like part of the Thornton family for over 35 years and will continue to feel so but there will be a missing piece 💔

There are pillars in communities, especially smaller ones, where their impact has reached for generations. To me, David was that pillar. I am proud to have known someone who gave so much to a sport that changed my life growing up. He mentored, coached, and poured into many of those involved in baseball or softball, without asking for anything in return. Personally, he allowed a 15 year old kid to be immersed in the sport I love, baseball. I umpired many games for David over the years, many times preparing the fields as he had taught me, all of which helped me to grow as a person. I will cherish the long conversations after a night of ballgames while eating a hamburger that Lisa had prepared. As an educator, advocating for children and loving them is what drives me each day. David will be missed, but his legacy of advocating and giving will carry on for many years to come.
