Syble Oeata Skaggs Baker's Obituary
Syble Oeata Skaggs Baker, age 83, of West Fork, AR passed away May 23, 2023 in Fayetteville. She was born November 8, 1939, in Oark, AR to Orville Roosevelt and Candy Margaret Hoskins Skaggs. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Leslie and Cole Skaggs, and her husband, Elbert C. Baker.
She attended Oark Schools then graduated in Waukegan IL. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism & Elementary Education from the U of A and a Master’s Degree in Library Science from UCA. She valued education highly and taught school for 20+ years.
Her mother passed when she was 9 after a long battle with illness. From an early age, she alternated living with grandparents and her many aunts and uncles leading to her priority of family closeness.
She was the matriarch of the Skaggs Family. From births and deaths to marriages and family reunions - most of the news went through Syble. She hoped our family would stay connected.
She was a big fan of the PIPPI workout group that met in the West Fork Community Center playing bean bag baseball and chair volleyball all the way to the Sr Olympics.
She was a very active member of First Baptist Church of West Fork where she enjoyed serving and loving people.
She is survived by her three children: Ray Baker and his wife Billie Sue of Edmond, OK, Candy Odglen and her husband Randy of Tontitown and Eileene Alsup and her husband Tim of Rogers; a brother Orbon (Bill) Skaggs of Beach Park, IL; eight grandchildren: Billy Baker and Melissa Chrites of Niceville, FL, Angela Ketner and her husband Jake of Catoosa, OK, Braxton Kehr and his wife Andrea of Bella Vista, Miles Kehr of Edmond, OK; Ashley Culbert and her husband Jared of Cave Springs, Lindsey Leeper and her husband Drew of Fayetteville; Brittany Alderson and her husband Matt of Rogers and Callie Kennedy and her husband Kyle of Bentonville. And eight great grandchildren Esther, Lydia, Gideon, Lily, Rowan, Finan, Beckett and Knox.
Everybody wants to go to heaven, but the transition is hard. Love to All.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11 AM Saturday, July 1, 2023 at First Baptist Church West Fork at 246 N Centennial Ave West Fork AR 72774 with a reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to West Fork First Baptist Church.
