The Reverend William Cline Hightower's Obituary
The Reverend William Cline Hightower, 83 of Springdale, AR passed away Friday, February 8, 2008 in Springdale, AR. Reverend Hightower was know by most as Brother Bill. He was born August 16, 1924 in Hartman, AR to Bryan and Rachel (Cline) Hightower.
Reverend Hightower received a BA Degree from Arkansas Tech University and did theological studies at Perkins School of Theology-SMU. He was invited to be a member of Pi Gamma Mu.
He was a retired Methodist Minister of the North Arkansas Conference of The United Methodist Church having retired in June of 1990 after 44 years of ministry. During his ministry he served in pastorates at First United Methodist Church in Pottsville, AR, Hoxie, AR, Ozark, AR, Paris, AR, Booneville, AR, Griffin Memorial Methodist Church in Paragould, AR, St. Paul United Methodist Church in Ft. Smith, AR, Piggott, AR, Central Avenue United Methodist Church in Batesville, AR, Nettleton/ Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church in Jonesboro, AR and was well as Associate Pastor at First United Methodist Church in Springdale, AR. During his Ministry he served on many North Arkansas Conference boards including Evangelism, Missions, Christian Education, Trustees of the Conference, Pensions, and Ordained Ministry, as well as spent many years directing youth camps and assemblies and teaching in several Schools of Christian Belief. Prior to being called to the ministry Reverend Hightower taught History and English in public schools and was voted most popular teacher many times. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Springdale, AR
He was preceded in death by his wife Betty Louise Hightower whom he married April 26, 1946, one brother; Hoyle R. Hightower and one sister; Francis Harris.
He is survived by one daughter; Mary Griffey of Fayetteville, AR, three sons; Bryan Hightower of Fayetteville, AR, Rick Hightower and wife Joanne of Rogers, AR, Steve Hightower and wife Mary of Springfield, MO, one brother; Bedell Hightower of Fort Smith, AR, ten grandchildren; Zach Hightower, Nicolette Hightower, Erica Hightower, Jennifer Griffey, Rich Hightower, Ben Hightower, Bethany Cradduck, Abigail Hightower, Hannah Hightower, Rebecca Hightower, and 6 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM, Tuesday, February 12, 2008 at The First United Methodist Church in Springdale with Bishop Max Whitfield and Reverends Mackey Yokem, Britt Skarda, Judy Van Hoose, and Craig Russell officiating. Burial will follow at Bluff Cemetery in Springdale.
Pallbearers will be Rich Hightower, Zach Hightower, Ben Hightower, Hoyle Wayne Hightower, Jim Cypert, Larry Douglas, Bob Chambers, and Charles "Ottie" Harber.
Honorary Pallbearers will be James Beaty, Don Rutledge.
