I came across this by searching for his name, wanted to see how he was enjoying his retirement. The news took my breath away when his obituary came up…Doc was one of a kind!!! He was kind, empathetic, and took such great care of my fur babies. I will never forget him, his voice and how he interacted with my babies. Loved the fact that he was a country doctor, old school, give you the facts with compassion and care. He helped usher our “Gracie” across the rainbow bridge, he knew that our hearts were breaking. Dr McDowell will be remembered as the best of the best. His love for FFA and the kids that were involved will be one of the memories I will cherish. He was passionate, and a no bull kind of man, his love to help others ran deep. Everyone looked up to him and wanted his opinion on everything and he didn’t sugar coat things just made you strive to do better! Anything worth doing is worth doing right! You put in hard work and kept your head held high in and out of the show ring! I will cherish memories of him and his family forever
So so saddened to hear of Docs passing. Definitely a very special man to so very many besides us. Many memories of feeding him lunch and even calling him to let him know we were cooking his favorite!
Oh Doc, you are one of the good ones! But I won't cry for you leaving! I will just celebrate you are Home!
My special vet, for so many years, but way more than that, Doc was my special friend. He was absolutely one of a kind. Way too many stories to tell. But, for me, I sure lost a good friend. His laugh and his voice stays with me. This hurts buddy.
The Mc Dowells were honest, a wonderful family who loved life. Vaughn was a great young man and a friend to alll. He married his Princess, the beautiful love of his life, whom he placed upon a pedestal. Vaughn’s word was all one needed. He was smart, animal loving and a gentle soul. The world lost a great man. Heaven gained an angel to care for the animals. He is home with his mom, dad, sister and brother; once, again. Prayers for Jamie and the children and grandchild. ❤️
I grew up with the McDowell kids. His sister, Susie Stacy, was s good friend of mine. Susie and I graduated from Sulphur High in 1973. The McDowell boys were onery boys but would do anything for a friend. So sorry to his family. May that onery cowboy rest in eternal peace in heaven’s glory.
It was a blessing to grow up with the McDowell kids. Vaughn kept us laughing all the time.
Dad told me they were traveling somewhere and drove past Vaughn's clinic. They turned around and stopped to visit. Dad thought the world of him

I am saddened to hear of Dr. McDowell's passing but know he's at peace in his Heavenly home with so many dear ones. He (and all of his staff) took such loving care of Max during Max's life and death and I will never forget any of you. Give Max a hug for me, Doc. Love and peace, Lynn Murphy.
