Virginia Kerr Wilson's Obituary
Virginia Kerr Wilson, 98, died at Butterfield Trail Village in Fayetteville, AR, on November 6. Virginia was born in Muskogee, OK, on November 30, 1925 to Rev. John Edwin and Gertrude Kerr. She had one older brother, John. She lived in Haskell, Rockwell, and Ballinger, TX before moving to Wagoner, OK where she spent most of her school years. She graduated from Atoka, OK, High School. She graduated from Oklahoma State University where she was a member of Chi Omega sorority.
She taught in Broken Bow, OK, for two years. She married Samuel Phil Wilson on July 1, 1950. They lived in Little Rock, AR, where Phil worked for IBM before moving to Oklahoma City, OK, in 1956. They had two children, Sue Ellen and John. She greatly enjoyed being a stay-at-home mom. She helped out with Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts, was a home room mother, and a church choir mother. She was an active member of First Presbyterian Church in Oklahoma City. She taught in the preschool there and eventually became the director of the preschool. She and Phil moved to Fayetteville, AR, in 1988. She was active in First United Presbyterian Church there and a member of the bell choir. She loved quilting, sewing, and playing bridge in her spare time. Virginia is survived by her son, John (Sarah) of Independence, KS, son-in-law Larry Ward of Fayetteville, three grandchildren Michael Ward (Tara), Sam Wilson and Emily Doyel (Nathan), and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Phil, her parents and brother, and daughter, Sue Ellen. A memorial service will be held on Friday, November 22, at 1:00 pm at First United Presbyterian Church in Fayetteville. Memorials are suggested for the church.
