Wanda Amelia Freeman's Obituary
Wanda Amelia Freeman, age 98, of Fayetteville, Arkansas passed away Sunday February 6, 2022. She was born on August 31, 1923 in Greenwood, Arkansas to Sandy and Eliza Cavalena. She is preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Harold Cavalena, one sister, Helen Cavalena Spicer, and her husband, Luther Eugene Freeman of 69 years.
She is survived by her two daughters, Jeanne Ann Krasser of Manchester, Connecticut and Susan Wizer of Fayetteville, Arkansas, three grandchildren, Stephen Krasser of Connecticut, Freeman Wizer of Nashville, Tennessee, and Ann Wizer Difani of Fayetteville. Her pride and joy were her great grandchildren, Ava, Amelia, and Brooks.
Wanda grew up in Greenwood, Arkansas and learned to play the piano at an early age. She soon began playing for church, school functions and played for soldiers at Fort Chaffee during WWII. She married Luther Eugene Freeman in 1946, and both attended the University of the Ozarks.
Wanda had a deep faith in God and was dedicated to her family. She loved children and spent most of her life teaching children’s choirs and Sunday School. In choir she taught the fundamentals of music as well as the love of Jesus through music. In Sunday School she enjoyed preparing lessons and activities to help the children develop a love for Jesus. And of course, she included her magical music skills!! She substituted in music classes for Fayetteville Public Schools for a brief time and was the music teacher at Play Learn Preschool at First Baptist Church. She also loved to play the organ for Sunday morning services. After Wanda and Luther moved to Butterfield Trail Village, she enjoyed playing for the chorus and for special occasions.
Wanda was a faithful member of First Baptist Church. She dedicated her life to serving and bringing her knowledge and love of music to others. She leaves a legacy of being a wonderful wife and mother who was totally committed to her faith and family.
There will be a private graveside service. Memorial service will be 2:00 pm Friday February 11, 2022 in the Performance Hall at Butterfield Trail Village.
