Waneta Alysia Redfern's Obituary
Waneta Aylsia Redfern, age 91, of West Fork, passed away Monday, June 11, 2012 at Washington Regional Medical Center Hospice. She was born January 8, 1921 in Lee’s Creek Township, Washington County, Arkansas, to Ernest Vanhaden and Mary Elizabeth Doyle Smith. She was affectionately known as Babe or Dink. She was a life-long resident of northwest Arkansas.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, L. L. “Jack” Redfern whom she married in December 1946; a brother, Walter Smith; and a sister, Lila Loftin.
She is survived by her daughter, Pamela Redfern of West Fork; a niece, Beatrice Smith of Prineville, Oregon and many friends and relatives.
Waneta truly loved life and learning. She was an avid reader and passed that love on to her daughter. When the West Fork Library was established in August 1975, she became the librarian and held that position until her retirement in July 2001. She loved the library, watching it grown from an 11 ft. by 22 ft. room to its present size. Getting to know and talk with the library patrons was an added bonus.
Waneta was an avid traveler. Visiting her niece in Oregon was a favorite trip, because it also meant a visit to the ocean at Lincoln City. She also found Holmes County, Ohio with its Amish culture or Maggie Valley in the Smoky Mountains of North Carolina beautiful in the fall.
The family would like to thank Washington Regional Hospice for care given to Waneta. We would like to thank the caregivers and especially her nurse, Debbie Hoskins. Without her advice and help, we would have been lost.
A funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m., Thursday, June 14 at Moore’s Chapel and burial will be in Fairview Memorial Gardens, under the direction of Moore’s Chapel.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the West Fork Municipal Library, P.O. Box 304, West Fork, AR 72774 or Washington Regional Hospice, 34 Colt Square, Fayetteville, AR 72702.
