Wayne you are missed papa Herod for life!

Dear Wayne,I'm sorry that you have gone so soon and before I could tell you what I have written here.Thank you for your friendship. You were a man of integrity in both your business and personal dealings, always seeking the best outcomes for those your worked with and for. I admired your bravery, being willing to swim against the prevailing current when your convictions led you to different conclusions from those that others came to. You were visionary and your considerable intellect, your continual learning and your attitude enabled you to see connections and solutions that others did not. And yet you were humble enough to admit when you were wrong.I loved your extensive vocabulary and the opportunity to discuss issues on a high intellectual plane. Your unique and humourous way of expressing concepts, challenges and relationships was always entertaining, if often somewhat colourful...I am honoured that you considered me friend enough to share your stuggles and joys with and I hope that my input has been of some use to you over the years. I am so glad that you found Tuk, your lovely wife of whom you were so proud. My family and I remember her generous hospitality when we visited. You would share with such admiration her capabilities and achievements. Please let her know that if she ever makes it down to New Zealand that she has a warm welcome and place to stay with us Dowds. Wayne, we are such wonderfully designed creatures with the ability to survive so much. We are rugged, and yet so fragile. We know this world is broken when someone with so much more to offer has been cut down so early. I am so grateful that I got to see you just 6 weeks ago. I greatly appreciated you Wayne and am glad to have had you in my life.Oh Wayne, I really wish that I could have said these things to you "in the living years". I pray God's peace in your rest and His comfort and peach for Tuk and the rest of your family.I miss you my friend,Peter Dowd

So very sad to hear about the loss of Wayne. I hadn’t seen him in many years but really enjoyed him as a classmate He was so intelligent and had a wonderful sense of humor. My sympathy to Wayne’s wife and family.
Julie and I are greatly saddened to hear of Wayne’s death. We met Wayne when he came to the Bureau of Mines as a student employee. We enjoyed the breadth of his interests and his essential warmth and kindness. Wayne’s creativity, and his ability to make his ideas concrete, made it a pleasure to work with him. We once together wrote software to process video images and conduct biomechanical analyses of stresses on miners’ spines. We were then asked to expand it from a two-dimensional model to a three-dimensional model, a much more complicated task. Wayne took the assignment and had the code running in under a week. In a similar mode, he independently developed an on-line, hypertext service manual for surface mining equipment. He was then asked to demonstrate it to a visiting Congressmen, which he did with great aplomb.Wayne was an original character. He was quick to understand and could cut to the essence of a complex topic in a heartbeat. He had a great passion for engineering, for ergonomics and for life. We offer our condolences to Tuk and to his family. We will miss him too.
Wayne has held a special place in my heart since we met. Even though we didnt stay in touch I've always considered him to be my friend. His humor and wit helped me through some trying times. Condolences to his wife and family.
