Yvonne Edwards Gyles' Obituary
Yvonne Edwards Gyles, 81, of Fayetteville, Arkansas entered eternal life on Sunday, June 13, 2010 at 10:55 a.m. Yvonne was proceeded in death by her parents, Eustace Edwards, and Venessa Edwards, her brother Eustace Edwards and three sisters Elizabeth Hudson, Louise Lockwood, and Winonah Pettit.
Yvonne Edwards Gyles was born on a small farm in Noble, LA. She graduated at 18 with a B.S degree from Northwestern University of Louisiana. After graduation she worked as a school teacher in Monroe, LA. She attended the University of Arkansas summer school session and graduated with a Masters Degree in Education. While attending the University of Arkansas she met her husband Nicholas Roy Gyles at a local square dance.
She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Dr. Nicholas Roy Gyles; her two children Dr. Nick Gyles of Fayetteville AR and Dr. Judy Gyles Johnson of New Orleans; grandsons Noah and Zachary Gyles of Fayetteville, AR; her granddaughter Anna Johnson of New Orleans, LA; and her brother Judge William Edwards of Dunnellon, Fl.
Yvonne was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church where she served many years on the Altar Guild and sang in the choir. She was a member of the local PEO chapter, an avid reader and bridge player.
Mom had an elegance and grace unmatched by most. She dedicated her life to making a loving home for her husband and children. She will be missed.
Visitation will be held at Nelson-Berna Funeral Home on Wednesday, June 16, 2010 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM, Thursday, June 17, 2010 at St Paul’s Episcopal Church in Fayetteville with The Reverend Lowell Grisham and The Reverend Suzanne Stoner officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Memorial Gardens in Fayetteville.
